⚡ Setting the context

https://www.pexels.com/ca-es/cerca/cybersecurity/. Cybersecurity (CC0)

Cybersecurity has become a growing concern for the general population. Equipment infections, account thefts, identity theft, and unauthorized access are some of the risks that can easily occur if we don't pay the necessary attention to protecting our devices and computer systems.
Despite what we may think, cybersecurity does not require advanced technical knowledge in computing or systems. If we are familiar with the security options offered by our devices and apply common sense in their daily use, it will be more than enough.
For this reason, and to share a series of simple and easy-to-apply security guidelines, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, in collaboration with INCIBE, the 017, the Internet Security Office, and the National Police, has developed an interesting cybersecurity guide for everyone. Review it, get ideas, and take good notes. It will surely be very useful for developing the task we propose below (📝 guia_ciberseguridad_para_todos.pdf 👇️).

Task to be carried out

In this task, you will need to bring out your techie side and develop a guide with a technical explanation on how to configure one of the solutions provided by the Educational Administration or the school’s owners (and, consequently, approved in the Center's Digital Plan) that can increase the security and digital well-being of your students.

What possible topics could you address? For example, you could develop a guide on...

  • Operating system and software updates
  • Device protection checks using antivirus
  • Secure passwords
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Use of password managers
  • Deleting browser history and cookies
  • Incognito browsing
  • Blockers for trackers and ads
  • Setting up parental control tools
  • Muting notifications
  • Pixelating images
  • Privacy settings for a social media profile
  • Configuring widgets to monitor screen time usage
  • ...

❗ You are free to use any tool that you feel most comfortable with to complete this task (online layout tool, presentation editor, video, audio, website, word processor...).

Toolbox

How to submit the task?

1️⃣ Upload the developed guide on the configuration of a tool used in your classroom/school to this task.
2️⃣ Additionally, to meet the B1 level requirements, and therefore verify that you are a professional who adopts the use of digital technologies in your teaching practice, submit proof that you are using this material with your students. This could be a photo, video, audio, or screenshot of your virtual environment (e.g., Classroom) showing that the material is available as a reference for your students, a screenshot of your gradebook with grades, or any material that demonstrates its implementation.

👌 Optional: If the activity has been successful and you want to share your configuration guide with your colleagues in this training, upload the resource you created to the public comments of this task.
