TASK SAMPLE: MD1 TASK 2

⭕ MD1 TASK 2 Alternatives for presenting information

Students differ in the way they perceive and understand the information presented to them. Different students may require different approaches to the content. One person may grasp the information more quickly or efficiently through a visual or auditory medium rather than printed text, for example. In short, there is no optimal medium of representation for all students, and providing multiple representation options is essential.

⭕ Task to Complete

In this task, you need to present to your class information on a topic that you will be addressing within a learning situation. In presenting this information, you will use the digital tools we covered in the in-person session, offering multiple options for presenting this information (text, audio, video, etc.).

To present this information in multiple formats, you can use any digital tool that allows you to present the content through a presentation or infographic, gathering the different alternatives to display the content. If you prefer, you can use the Genial.ly template found in the toolbox, creating a copy of it in your Genial.ly panel.

As an alternative to presenting the information in text format, you should include at least three of the following four options:

  1. Facilitated Reading: Rewrite the text using simpler language that is easier to understand, with fewer passive sentences, subordinate, or compound clauses. Use vocabulary that is closer to your students. Highlight the main ideas in bold or other formats, and make the text less abstract. Remember not to remove information from the text, just make it easier to read. You can use large language models from artificial intelligence to help rewrite the text.
  2. Audio: Generate an audio version as an alternative to the text. Use any program to record your audio (or even your mobile phone). If you chose to use the Genial.ly template provided, the instructions there explain how to record and incorporate the audio.
  3. Video: Add a video as an alternative to the text. If you want, you can add subtitles, as you learned in the previous task.
  4. Visual Support: Insert a summary created with a pictotranslator or another visual method that presents the key ideas of the information. You can take a screenshot and insert it as an image. If you're good at it, you can even create a Visual Thinking and upload it as an image.
