👌 TASK Y: Start-of-term meeting

Activity Focus

⚡ According to the MRCDD, in this activity, you will work with the following indicator:

  • Area 6. Development of students' digital competence
  • Stage: B
  • Progression Level: B1
  • Competence: 6.1 Media literacy and information and data management
  • Indicator: 6.1.B1.2 Select, from the technologies provided by the AE or the school authorities, the most suitable ones for students to develop their competence in information and data management.

Task to be carried out

Once the school year has started, it’s time for the back-to-school meeting with families. This is an ideal opportunity to talk to parents about the responsible use of devices and ensure the digital well-being of their children.
In this voluntary and optional activity, create the presentation you would use in this meeting. The suggested outline might include the following points:

  • Presentation and dissemination of the Child and Adolescent Protection Protocol available at the school (👌 Task X. Comprehensive Child Protection Protocol).
  • Presentation of the results from the survey on the use of digital devices outside the school environment (🔴 Task 2. The Impact of Technology on Adolescence (UNICEF) Part 🅱️).
  • Initial dynamic to listen to the needs and concerns of families on the topic.
  • Understanding students’ digital reality: which apps do they use most? What are they about?
  • Presentation of resources to promote family dialogue on digital use and organization at home.
  • Various information on common issues: screen time control, parental control tools, recommended app ages (PEGI code), mobile phones, social media...
  • Finally, the current rules at the school regarding the use of digital devices: Are personal devices allowed (BYOD - Bring Your Own Device)? Which apps will be used throughout the school year? What communication system will be established with families? What protocols are set in place at the school?

How to submit the task?

1️⃣ Voluntarily, upload your presentation, document, or graphic resource used in your back-to-school meeting to this task.
2️⃣ Additionally, to meet the B1 level requirements and demonstrate that you are adopting the use of digital technologies in your teaching practice, submit evidence showing that you are using this material with your students. A photo, video, audio, screenshot of your virtual environment (e.g., Classroom) where the material is available for student reference, a screenshot of your gradebook, etc. Anything that shows it is being put into practice.
